Better One or Two?

Wood veneers can take on many different appearances. How a veneer is made, in some cases, relates to economy and the yield of the piece of wood.

The risers in this case are oak plywood and the treads are solid oak. As you look at the two surfaces you can see the contrast. This is rotary cut veneer and is produced by turning the log against a knife. This provides the maximum amount of material but when installed side by side against cut board wood it can be jarring.
