5000 Degrees of Kelvin

You might guess these are two different shades of the same colour.

You might guess these are two different shades of the same colour.

Are you sure that is the same color?

Absolutely positive. But it does look different no question.  The intended shade is to the right of the photo by the copier.

With the correct paint mixed and applied the appearance was off. A quick look up gave the answer. Directly behind the reception desk,  and mostly throughout the entire space, fluorescent lights were 2700 K tubes providing a yellowish hue which mimics an incandescent light bulb . To the right is a 5000K unit which has a cool white cast.

Lighting temperature is measured in Kelvin. The lower the number the "warmer" the tone the higher the "cleaner" the look.

To the left you can see the 5000k Bulb and to the right is a 2700k.

Our client will be using the painted wall as the base for new signage but without a lighting correction it will look muddy. Replacing the lighting directly around the reception area will fix this simple issue but a bulb change out in the entire space will freshen existing finishes and provide better continuity to the look.
